Bologna International Airport serves Bologna and the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. Named after the Bolognese inventor, Guglielmo Marconi, the airport is located a short distance outside of the center. It is served by a variety of international airlines. The airline has the usual shops, coffee bars, a decent restaurant, and even a grocery store.

The easiest way to get to the city center from the airport is currently a local airport express bus, Aerobus. The service is run by TPER, the regional bus service. You can buy one way tickets from machines at the airport, from a machine at Bologna Centrale, the train station (Not in the main hall, but the one to the left of the piazza) or from the TPER office at the train station. Fares are €6 one way. Be sure to validate your ticket as you get on the bus. Look for a machine with a slot into which you slide your ticket. It stamps a time and date which makes your ticket valid for the trip.

Starting soon, there will be another way to get to and from the Bologna airport. The Marconi Express is an elevated monorail that goes from Bologna Centrale to the airport. It’s been under construction for several years, and as this is written, in February of 2020, it is undergoing final testing. The new service will cut the transit time by gliding over the road traffic but will cost a bit more. The expected one-way fare is 8.70 €.

Other ways to getting to the city from the airport include taxi cabs and private driver cars (limo service). Please see our section on taxi cabs for more information. The following companies provide private transfers from the airport:
